The ImmiGreat Letter Initiative

This Immigrant Heritage Month, I invite you to make a meaningful impact on those who have recently migrated to their adopted countries. As immigrants, we understand the challenges, fears, and hopes of starting fresh in a new country. In this spirit of empathy and community building, I invite you to join The ImmiGreat Letter Initiative to offer new and settling immigrants' encouragement and hope.

Make no mistake, your wisdom and experiences are of extreme value to many who feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or lonely. By sharing advice, an encouraging story, or a few words of welcome, you can instill confidence, inspire dreams, and remind them that they are not alone on their immigrant journey.

Please read the guidelines below. I look forward to sharing your sincere letters here on the website. Together, we can create a brighter and more inclusive world for all.

GUIDELINES FOR THE IMMIGREAT LETTER INITIATIVE

  • Write from the heart, and don’t be afraid to let your unique personality shine.

  • Put yourself in the shoes of the recipient of your letter. Remember the challenges you faced and offer words of support and encouragement.

  • Share a brief personal story or anecdote highlighting the resilience, strength, or triumphs you've experienced as an immigrant. This will help inspire and connect with the reader.

  • A positive and uplifting tone is always best. Focus on messages of hope, perseverance, and the potential for a brighter future.

  • Be mindful of cultural differences, celebrate diversity, and avoid assumptions or stereotypes.

  • Offer practical advice or tips to help the recipient navigate their new environment, such as finding local resources, learning the language, or networking opportunities.

  • Highlight their unique contributions and the value they bring to their new community.

  • Acknowledge their bravery and the sacrifices they may have made to pursue a better life.

  • Conclude your letter by letting the recipient know they are not alone if you wish them to reach out if they need assistance or to connect with someone who understands their experience.

These guidelines are meant for direction and inspiration but feel free to personalize your letters based on your experiences and unique perspective. I was inspired to start this campaign by my friend, and her words, though few, stoked something inside me. Your words have the power to uplift and empower others.

*Please note that The ImmiGreat Life reserves the right to edit out any parts or not publish submissions that do not follow our guidelines.
